Sarah Designs Her Cake

These are pictures of my daughter Sarah's 6th Birthday cake. When asked what she wanted on it she gave my her own design. I think I did an OK job of re-creating her masterpiece. I sure hope she likes it at her party tomorrow!!

Sunflower Cupcakes

My daughter turned six today and of course I wanted to take cupcakes into her class. A friend of mine let me use her "Hello Cupcake" book to get some ideas. There were many that my daughter liked and I set out (very last minuite) to find all that I needed. I have to say I was a little exasperated at how difficult it was to find some things and at how many stores I would need to go to to do some of the designs (not to mention the money I would need to spend). In the end I used the sunflower idea because the only things I needed to buy were M&Ms and mini Oreos ( I happened to have the rest). There were fun to make but a bit time consuming. I was up until 1am to finish them. In the end it was worth it. They were a big hit. The ladybug is my favorite part. I know Sarah loved them and that is all that matters. Even with the hastle I still love the book and would love to get my hands on the new one "What's New Cupcake."

Castle and a Rocket Ship

While in NH I was able to make two cakes for my best friend's children. Ethan requested a rocket ship and Emmy wanted a castle... here is the result. (We used templates from an awsome cake book that my friend has.)

Early Cakes

Deric has worked VERY hard to put all of my cake pictures into the computer, in order, and he dated them. Then he started putting them into the blog so that all I have to do is type some words and....wala here is my post!!!
These are some pictures of my very first cakes, the ones I made during the cake class that I took. It was almost nine years ago now. I am really glad I took the class, it was a lot of fun.
This cake was to decorate with the basket weave, and to use the flowers we made with royal icing.
Fun with clown heads?! I personally think that they are scary!

Using fondant.

Transferring an image from a coloring book (or other location).

Making roses. (This happened to be made on the last day of the very first Survivor show.)

Some of the royal icing flowers... not too hard but time consuming!!

? a cupcake full of flowers ?

Fun and easy bunny cakes.

My Sister In Law's Birthday

My sister in law turned... a year older... on Saturday. Her husband threw her a surprise birthday party. I volunteered to make the cake. This is what I came up with (after a lot of suggestions from my husband and kids).
I started with flowers. I made 600 of these-exactly! And it took me MANY hours to do so. But they came out nice and the finished product was worth it.... I made three different cakes... chocolate filled with vanilla, vanilla filled with chocolate, and vanilla with vanilla. I put the cakes on my garden stand. This is the top cake.

The completed cake. I was proud of how it came out, and it tasted good too!
